What is Reiki?
The practice of Reiki (pronounced Rae Key) is an original method of healing, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century, which is activated by intention. Reiki's natural healing energy works on every level, not just the physical, and promotes the body's regenerative self healing ability. The Japanese word Reiki means 'Universal Energy'. Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. Known as 'ki' in Japan, 'chi' in China and 'prana' in India. Acupuncture, T'ai chi and Yoga are also based on the free-flow of this energy in a person.
Reiki is a non-invasive therapy whose purpose is to treat holistically. Reiki is a healing energy which is channelled through the practitioner's hands. The hands are placed on or near the person or animal with many quickly becoming calm, often going into a deep state of relaxation. Reiki is a non-invasive therapy that can be used without fear of any side-effects or overdose. It may be used with confidence alongside conventional medication or natural remedies because it acts in a complementary way.
How will Equine Reiki help?
Equine Reiki has been proven useful in the treatment of injuries such as bad backs, wounds, head shaking, behavioural problems, and problems associated with past trauma, etc. Horses can suffer many different forms of stress, which can cause imbalances in various ways. These imbalances can produce sudden out of character habits; rearing, napping or bucking for example. Reiki helps the body to heal itself, re balancing the areas where it is needed most, it can also be used to relax the horse both physically and mentally.
Horses love Reiki, and absorb energy very quickly. They often go into a deep state of relaxation during a healing and are very good at telling you when they have had enough! Reiki can also be given over the stable door, for horses that are very nervous or difficult to handle. Reiki is a non-invasive complementary therapy, and I practice in conformance with the Veterinary Surgery Act 1966.
Please be aware Reiki is not intended to replace medical treatment, but to complement.
You too as the owner or rider can benefit from Reiki, helping with competition nerves, loss of confidence and assist with those aches and pains that go with horse ownership.
What Happens during the Consultation?
An Equine Session will last from one hour to one and a half hours, depending on each individual. During the first consultation I sit down with you the owner or carer of the horse and discuss aspects of the horses life. I will then ask you to read and sign the Treatment Consent form, then I will begin to work with your horse. I am happy for you to hold your horse but do ask that mobile phones and radios are switched off and where possible no-one else is present on the yard. This is your horses time and it should be peaceful enough that they can enjoy the session without worrying what is going on outside the stable. I ask the carer or owner permission to take a photograph of the horse so that I can offer distance healing if and when needed.
The Treatment
I begin by asking your horse permission to heal and connecting . Once permission is granted and I am connected I will then place my hands in various positions over the body, these positions are the seven main Chakras. I stay with each Chakra for long as is needed for each healing. Some horses instinctively know where they need the healing and will position themselves so that my hands are on that point. I will then scan the body for any signs of heat or cold and then if needed continue to heal at other points. Finally I will seal the aura and thank the horse.
Between consultations I am available if you have any concerns, you can call me or email me. Please do be aware that if I am consulting I do not answer my phone but do leave a message and I will call back. When I drive off your yard this does not mean our relationship is over until the next visit. I know how frustrating it can be if you have questions or are worried - if you feel like this please contact me - I am here to help.
