Young male pet sheep with flystrike

I have to be honest I was surprised to be treating a sheep - but hey the theory is the same!

Toby was a one year old pet sheep who unfortunately was sheared a little too late, and whilst being sheared flystirke was found under his fleece. Normally once the fleece is removed the maggots cannot survive and drop off and die. With flystrike in sheep what happens is the maggots eventually poison the blood of the host and so the host will die.

As I said, Toby was sheared and put back out into the paddock, when checked the following morning the flystrike had spread from just a 4 inch square on his back to the whole of his back and down his right hand side. He was very distressed and obviously very unwell.  Initially I helped to clean the maggots from him and and bath the open wounds they had caused.  Not sure what else I could do I offered him Reiki.

I took a photograph of him and when home put a crystal layout on the picture to help with the healing and also offered distance healing.  Next day he was worse and still covered in maggots, but by this stage it was obvious he may not survive.  I again help to clean him, put gels on his wounds, offered some herbs and then again gave him Reiki.  I was concerned and did not think we would have a good outcome, but the owner knew that if a Vet was called he would be put to sleep, and she at least wanted to give him a chance.

Again that evening I did distant healing and really hoped for the best. Next morning I popped in to see how Toby was, and I am pleased to say he was happily grazing and free from maggots. Within a week the wounds had healed although they have left some nasty scars.

One year on - he was sheared earlier than normal and is doing well.
